Cairns to Mission Beach to Magnetic Island
15.06.2009 - 18.06.2009
28 °C
We left Cairns for Innisfail, there was a reason we were going to this place that you have probably never heard of. This is where we would do our skydive! The guys took us to a house near the airstrip, there was 3 other people also doing the skydive at the same time. We met our instructors and they explained to us the correct way for jumping out of a plane (apparently there is a good way to do this). Then it was time to head for the very small plane, where we sat on the floor for the 20min flight. When we were close to 14,000 feet they told us to sit on their laps so they could attach the harness to us and they kept saying that we now couldn't go anywhere without them. Then it was 3 2 1 go, Jemma was first to leave and I was last. It was a 60 second freefall before the parachute was opened, the freefall was so terrifying but amazing too. After the parachute opened you felt like you were just floating all the way down. It did feel good to be back on the ground when we landed lol. After our skydive we were dropped in Innisfail to catch the bus to mission beach, we just spent the afternoon on the gorgeous beach. The next day we left Mission Beach to go to Townsville where we caught the ferry over to Magnetic Island. We have 2 nights here. Today we went kayaking in the sea, this was fun after we struggled with the Kayak to the sea (they are heavier than they look). I think we finally got the hang of it and managed not to tip over into the sea
We hired bikes for the afternoon and cycled to West Point beach. Apart from a few (BIG) hills it was quite flat but it was mostly on a sand track which was interesting to cycle on. It was well worth the 12km cycle once we got to the beach, since it was another gorgeous beach which we almost had to ourselves and it was surrounded by clear blue waters. Unfortunately we couldn't swim in the sea here because of the jelly fish
We leave Magnetic Island tomorrow to go to Airlie Beach.
